Plymouth Octopus supports grassroots organisations with events, networking, funding, and training & 1:1 support through our capacity building service POP ideas. We also support by working across the city to influence decision making and ensuring the grassroots is recognised and involved where it counts.
POP runs monthly themed networking events, online and in-person, for you to share and connect with the POP team and other members. Our next members networking event is coming up on 17 December at The Plot!
We offer advice on funding, business planning and impact. POP Ideas is a service delivered by POP and Iridescent Ideas CIC that provides advice for voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations, whatever size they may be, and whether they are new or established.
The POP Ideas team (Imogen, Paul, Susan, Gareth, Chloe, Jess and Rowan) have developed their 2024 training (workshops & webinars) around three themes: Digital Skills, People & Leadership, and Improving Your Chances of Getting Funding. The training is free for POP members and will be repeated throughout the year.
POP works hard to ensure grassroots activity and value is seen by all. We do this in a variety of ways. We communicate. We publicise as far as possible, all the amazing work you do. We talk about you. Wherever we can, we talk about your impact at strategic meetings across the city. We use data wisely (as we can!). We combine (y)our data to make a bigger impact and show (y)our collective impact.
The push for more inclusive decision-making and governance comes from the desire to ensure marginalised voices are better heard and empowered. This not only aligns with ethical principles but also leads to more innovative outcomes. By focusing on marginalised groups and enabling their participation, we want to enhance citizen-led initiatives and connections, ultimately amplifying their impact.
